09.16.09 - FLOOD YR FACE: DFD | YAWN | TIGER HATCHERY

Ghouls & Goblins,

How is everyone doing? I hope all is well for each and every one of you! We've got a couple of great shows & events coming our way this week! Get excited!

Before I go into all of that, let's see what Fall has in store! Ian Svenonious of Nation Of Ulysses/Make Up/etc. will be making a stop at the Lemp Arts Center with his new outfit, CHAIN AND THE GANG on Sunday, September 27th. Warm keyboard wash duo PEAKING LIGHTS might be jamming for the masses in early October (Y'know...if we are lucky). Minimal Wave & Neo-folk imported from Brooklyn invades St. Louis at the new indie rock lounge Antarctica! Witness the arcane stylings of Death Domain and Cult Of Youth, possibly with a new darkwave treat from some ex-Eugenics Council members. October? Noisefest? That's right! 2009's St. Louis Noisefest is being cooked up right now with over 40 noise and experimental acts from the Midwest destroying the mainstream!

Alright. Keep checking www.apoprecords.com/floodyrface for show updates and information! Follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/floodyrface . Check out the blog at floodyrface.blogspot.com . If there are any shows you think I should list, send them my way. Tell your friends about this list or the page and as always, continue to support local music in St. Louis. Thanks to all friends who have supported this over the years. It is ALWAYS appreciated!

Now onto the goods!

Your friend,
Josh

Tiger Hatchery is a free jazz three piece comprised of Andrew Young, Mike Forbes, and Ben Billington. Billington has collaborated with members of post-rock pioneers Tortoise with his percussive efforts as well in the noise rock trio DRUIDS OF HUGE. Forbes & Young are a prolific duo in their own right, sitting in on sessions with many of Chicago's North Side jazz legends. They recently put out an album with Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers). Their style is explosive and that of European Free Jazz. But don't get me wrong FAR FROM ACADEMIC, AND CLOSER TO HOUSE PARTY 2!

Wasteland Jazz Unit is the seething duo of Jon Lorenz & John Rich. Their project is a rich, hyper blend of reeds & electronics. They have toured with likes of Graveyards (John Olson of Wolf Eyes) and Burning Star Core (C. Spencer Yeh). They last played St. Louis in April with BxC.
